Our readers write from Los Angeles (Editor’s note: This is a story from Joyce Mancini’s ESL class at Evans Community Adult School in Los Angeles. Other stories were printed in previous issues.) A turning point in my life When I was 13 years old, my dreams were to be a singer or go to college. I always wanted to be a teacher. My life changed when I turned 17. I got pregnant and had my first child. The most difficult part was being a teenage single mother. I had the big responsibility of taking care of someone precious. I decided to come to the United States so I could give a better life to my daughter and help my mom in Honduras. One day, I wish to fulfill the dreams I had. |
