My country is Nicaragua
by Guillermina Mua

My country is Nicaragua. Nicaragua is known as the land of lakes and volcanoes. It is the biggest country in Central America. It has 16 cities, 156 countries and 360 islands in Cocibolca Lake. There are four big lakes; two are natural (Cocibolca Lake and Granada Lake) and two are artificial (Apanas and Canoas). I love the food in my country because the vegetables are beautiful and pesticide-free. Some typical foods are nacatamal, rice, beans, tortillas and corn. The drinks are made of corn, chica, pozol, and pinolillo. The native dances are very nice.

This is a picture of my beautiful family. My family is very small. I have one son. His name is John. He’s enlisted in the Navy in Nicaragua as an engineer. He’s 25 years old and single. Hopefully, he’ll enjoy the life that he worked hard for and be the man his father was. My parents are dead and so is John’s father. This made our family bond grow stronger. I attend Lone Star College/LINC ESL class in Houston, Texas where I’m a low intermediate student. My teacher is Jacklyn Ross. With her help, I will continue improving my English so that I can get a good job and make a better life for myself in this country.
